The Train of Wonders: A Journey Through Time Between the Alps and the Riviera!

By popular demand, historic trains are arriving on the panoramic Ferrovia delle Meraviglia (Railway of Wonders), the famous Cuneo – Ventimiglia line, considered among the most beautiful railway lines in the world. From Sunday, July 6th, it will be possible to travel aboard a vintage train from the Ligurian Riviera to the towns of the Val de Roya. The initiative, long awaited, stems from the collaboration between FS Treni Turistici Italiani, Fondazione FS, and the Italian and French local authorities forming part of the CARF (Communauté d’Agglomération de la Riviera Française). The train, composed of historic 1930s and 1940s "Centoporte" type carriages, will depart from Ventimiglia station at 9:55 AM to reach Tende at 11:40 AM, with departure back towards Liguria at 4:30 PM and arrival in Ventimiglia at 6:05 PM. Intermediate stops are planned at the stations of  Breil Sur Roya, Fontain Saorge, St. Dalmas de T., La Brigue, and Tende. The historic train, pulled by a Diesel locomotive in vintage livery, will run on July 6th, 13th, and 14th, and on August 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 31st, making its last journey on September 6th. Travelers can take advantage of an extended stop to visit the exhibition at the Musée départemental des Merveilles in Tende and the charming church of Sainte-Marie en l'Assomption in Breil-sur-Roya.

The Breil-Ventimiglia line, which winds for 96 km between the Maritime Alps and the spectacular Mercantour National Park until it reaches the Ligurian Ponente Riviera, is known as the "Railway of Wonders."

Its name comes from the beauty of the places it crosses and the particular technical solutions adopted in its construction, such as the evocative bridges connecting the narrow valleys of the Roya and the numerous tunnels, including the helical tunnel of Vernante, approximately 1500 meters long. This stretch, significant from a historical, tourist, and landscape perspective, will now be enlivened by a historic train that will offer an extraordinary journey through time between the Mediterranean and the heart of the Franco-Italian Alps.

---------------------------------------
