The D445s are among the most famous and long-lived diesel locomotives in the Italian rolling stock fleet, having entered service in the early 1970s. Designed for versatile use, they have excelled in hauling both passenger and freight trains, operating on almost all of the country's non-electrified lines. These locomotives are easily recognizable by their distinctive design and their green-Isabella livery or, later, XMPR. Robust and reliable, they have represented a fundamental pillar for railway transport, ensuring essential connections even on difficult routes.
