Palazzolo - Paratico with Panoramic Carriages

A surprising journey through nature and pristine landscapes

Between the hills of Franciacorta and the waters of Lake Iseo, the Palazzolo sull'Oglio – Paratico railway invites you to rediscover travel in its most authentic form. Built in 1876 to connect the lake to the plain, it has now been revived as a tourist line thanks to the "Binari senza Tempo" project by the FS Foundation, transforming it into a slow and sustainable tourism experience.

The tourism offering, promoted by the FS Foundation together with Trenord for the Lombardy Region, further enhances this route, contributing to the dissemination of a gentle and mindful mobility model capable of connecting territories, communities, and destinations.

In just a few kilometers, the train passes through countryside, vineyards, and river views, accompanying the traveler to the shores of Lake Iseo, amidst a succession of landscapes that invite you to slow down and observe.

Arriving in Paratico opens the door to a region rich in nature and experiences, particularly the evocative Bosco dei Taxodi: an oasis suspended between water and land, traversed by wooden walkways, where centuries-old trees emerge from the water, creating a unique and immersive atmosphere.

A short but intense journey, where the train becomes the guiding thread for a slow exploration of the landscape, culture, and identity of the area.

Panoramic Carriages on the Sebino Railway

Every Saturday in July and August starting from 27 June, the new Panoramic Carriages of the FS Italiane Foundation will travel along the historic Sebino Railway with four daily trips between Palazzolo sull'Oglio and Paratico-Sarnico. An itinerary that allows you to rediscover one of the most characteristic railway connections in Lombardy, created to connect the territory to Lake Iseo and today valued as an immersive tourist experience. Along the route, the train passes through landscapes that tell the identity of the territory: the course of the Oglio river, the vineyards of Franciacorta and the glimpses that anticipate the arrival on Lake Iseo where the panorama opens up towards the Dolomites. An experience that combines the valorization of the railway heritage with the discovery of one of the most representative territories of Lombardy.

The Panoramic Coaches

The panoramic coaches used on the Palazzolo–Paratico line are distinctive vehicles designed to offer direct contact with the surrounding landscape. Being partially open, they allow passengers to enjoy the journey in the open air, fully immersed in the sounds and scents of nature. Their simple, open structure—combined with unobstructed views over the fields and the river—recalls the genuine atmosphere of traditional countryside railway excursions.

These coaches, preserved and adapted for tourist use, represent one of the most immediate and engaging ways to appreciate the historic line: not just a means of transport, but a “moving viewpoint” that turns every minute of the journey into a small moment of wonder.
