FS Treni Turistici Italiani manages and markets the historic trains of the FS Foundation, a historic rolling stock fleet that includes over 400 vehicles, including steam locomotives, electric locomotives, railcars and carriages.
This is a unique heritage in Europe, which tells the story of the technological development of the Italian railways and their fundamental role in the modernization of the country. Many of these rolling stock have been restored and are still able to function, offering visitors the opportunity to travel aboard historic trains and relive the atmosphere of a bygone era.
Law 128 of 2017 opened up new perspectives for the recovery of disused railway lines. This law has allowed the redevelopment of disused railway sections, enhancing the Italian railway heritage and promoting sustainable tourism.
Thanks to this legislation, the FS Foundation was able to launch the "Binari senza Tempo" project, restoring several railway lines, transforming them into unique tourist itineraries, where it is possible to travel aboard historic trains and admire breathtaking landscapes.
In this way, abandoned railway sections have been given new life, enhancing the territory and offering travellers an unforgettable experience to admire the beauties of our country from a privileged perspective, comfortably seated in vintage carriages, and savour the atmosphere of the past.
